911/914 Front "Boxster" Adapter |
|
A popular brake upgrade to your early 911/914, the Boxster caliper is a cheap, lightweight, and powerful increase in braking. Other brake upgrades claim to be cheap, but make sure you do your homework. I've done several brake conversion types including the 964 calipers, which requires additional machining of the caliper. Between the cost of used 964 calipers, machining, and the rebuild kits, the shocking part was the cost of new seals from Porsche/Brembo. Machined from a solid piece of 6061-T6 Aluminum, these caliper adapters are precisely designed to mount the Porsche Boxster caliper to your Porsche 911/914 suspension.
(See application chart below). · Billet 6061-T6 Aluminum · Grade 12.9 metric bolts · Anodized for superior protection · Removal of brake dust shields is required · No modifications to your Porsche required · 911/914 front rotor: 911 Carrera ('84-'89) · 911 rear rotor: Stock-S-SC ('72-'83) · 914 rear rotor: Boxster non-'S' ('97-'04) |

Just like the front kit, this adapter bolts onto all '65-'89 911 rear trailing arms, both steel and aluminum. Other adapters will tell you in the fine print that if you have the aluminum trailing arms, you need to cut off the top brake sheild tab to work. Not with this kit, its "bolt and play". · Reasoning for the "boomerang" design: 911 trailing arms The stock, twin piston 911 brake calipers have a smaller brake pad, which fits between the 3" bolt center caliper mounting tabs. The Boxster calipers obviously have a much bigger brake pad in length, this interferes with these tabs. In order to get full brake pad placement on stock 911 rotors, the Boxster calipers need to be relocated. · Re-routing the brake lines: I do not supply any brake lines or fittings needed for installation. I do this to keep my overhead low, thus your price low. Plus, there are different ways you can route the brake lines, but I assure you all of these parts are available from Porsche, brake line manufactures and online parts stores. The best way I have seen to route the brake line to the caliper is to plug the stock brake line hole and install a banjo fitting onto the bottom of the cross over line on the caliper. See photo. · Bleeding the brakes: Because the calipers are closer to horizontal than vertical, getting all of the air bubbles out of the system is a bit of a task. I suggest unscrewing the top adapter bolt and loosening the bottom to allow the caliper and adapter together to rotate forward placing the caliper in a vertical position. See Photo. Then place a solid object that is the same width of the rotor between the pads and bleed. Rear Suspension Compatibility Porsche 911 steel and aluminum trailing arm (3" bolt spacing)
