DWD 914-6 Aluminum Oil Tank Kit

All of the parts I currently make together in a kit for installing the 911 engine in your 914. Oil tank, filler neck, dipstick, and filter stand. Oil lines not included, but are available through several of my vendors. I am currently working on a hardline kit which I hope to have ready early '08.

DWD 914-6 Aluminum Oil Tank

The installation of the oil tank is almost identical to the installation of a factory 914-6 oil tank. The differences made to the tank are to give it more oil volume over stock.

· Cover the oil filler neck tube and oil breather tube prior to putting tank in wheel well. This will keep any dirt stuck on the sides from falling into the tank via the holes during instillation. Tape will work, just make sure the tape is secure and won't rip until the tank is in place.

· The two studs that hold the stock tank to the firewall are now bolts that thread into the tank. What I have found to work the best is to place the two clear plastic washers (see illustration) on either side of the firewall with the new bolts holding them in place. Then, when the tank is positioned, push bolts to the tank and start threading. It may take a few tries to find the bolt hole while shifting the tank around slightly.

· The 'oil to engine' mount on the bottom of the tank is assembled during production, there is no need to take it off. I recommend that you install the oil line to this fitting and tighten before instillation of the tank in the fender well.

· The side 'oil return' mount which receives oil from the engine needs to be removed for the installation of the tank in the fender well. Once the tank is mounted and both bolts holding it securely, thread in the side oil fitting. You can use a thread sealant, or blue loctite. DO NOT USE RED LOCTITE!

· ALWAYS use a wrench to secure oil fitting on the tank while tightening oil lines to fittings. This will keep the fitting to oil tank from stripping.

· Tools you will need:
1. 13mm wrench
2. Screw driver, Phillips and slotted
3. 27mm wrench
4. 32mm wrench
5. 36mm wrench
6. 5mm hex key

· As for the holes to be drilled in the firewall, I suggest drilling them as big as possible to the diameter of the pre-stamped section using bi-metal hole-saws. I use the fallowing hole saws for installation; Oil filler neck: 2 7/8"(73mm), Oil breather tube: 2" (50mm), Oil filter stand: 4" (100mm), Oil IN (on firewall): 2" (50mm), Oil IN (under engine compartment shelf, no hole pre-stamped on '73>): 1 ¾"(45mm).

DWD Oil Filler Neck

The DWD oil filler neck gives you the best of both worlds; lightweight aluminum and lifetime strength of stainless steel. The base of the filler neck which mates to the oil tank and dipstick tube is stainless steel
with an integrated stainless screen to keep "oops" objects from falling into the tank.

The aluminum section of the neck is press fit on the stainless base and utilizes a strong Acme style thread keeping dirt and oil from locking up and destroying the threads. The neck is powder coated black for extra protection. The cap is CNC machined from billet 6061-T6, anodized dark grey, and a rubber oil seal.

Dipstick

Dimensions are copied from the no longer avalible early style dipstick, these are laser cut from spring-stainless steel and precision bent. How important is it to have a precision bent dipstick? I don't know... but its my never ending goal to provide the vintage Porsche aftermarket with the best industry can offer.

Filler Stand

The DWD oil filter stand is CNC machined from a solid piece of 6061-T6 aluminum and then anodized for superior protection. The oil relief bypass valve found on the OEM unit has be removed from this design because current oil filters (like the Mahle OC61) have this provision incorporated. We also machined the steel ¾ NC-16 threaded fitting to get as close to originality as possible. O-ring and bolt hardware are the same dimensions as OEM and are included with each stand.
